BLACKADDER RAW CASK - “A Drop of the Irish” (2024 Release)
A cask strength, independent bottling of whisky by Blackadder (meaning, they didn’t distill it themselves — they sourced it from an Irish whiskey distillery, though they do not disclose which distillery or how old it is). We have no inside information on this release, but generally speaking, if its an Irish whiskey from an undisclosed distillery, chances are it’s from the Cooley Distillery, the Great Northern Distillery, or Bushmills.
Although Blackadder is mostly known for their fiercely raw bottlings of single malt Scotch, they also release an occasional bottling of Irish whiskey, which like nearly all their releases is bottled at cask strength, with no color added, and not only no chill filtration, not even the most basic filtration to keep out the char! The “raw cask” label basically means you are likely to have a healthy amount of barrel char floating around the bottom of the bottle, no doubt to drive home the point that they are not chill-filtering the whisky.
