Compass Box - Glasgow Blend (Peated) - Single Marrying Cask (finished in an ex-Cameronbridge cask)

Blended Scotch Whisky

Cask #65, 1 of 222 bottles

Married June 16, 2022, Bottled June 13, 2023

A Note From Drammers Club: Compass Box has been a global leader in reminding the whisky world that blends can be as premium as anything out there. So, instead of a traditional “single barrel program, their singular focus on blended Scotches led them to create a “Single Marrying Cask” program, where they create their signature blends and then recask them for the components to settle down. For this single marrying cask, they used an Ex-Cameronbridge cask (Cameronbridge is a lowlands grain distillery, and a particularly tasty one at that). Like their core range “Glasgow Blend” release, this is a Peated expression, using sherry-matured components to create a fruity, full bodied blend. The name comes from the old book “Whisky” by Aeneas MacDonald, which says that 1900s Glasgow drinkers preferred a more full bodied and bolder flavor than the rest of the world.

Our Tasting Notes: On the nose we get a range of intense fruit notes, especially dates, apple juice, grape, even a little Marsala. On the palate, a sweet milk chocolate note takes hold, with notes of allspice, nutmeg and cardamon. But it is the finish which shines the most here: the smoke peaks up seemingly out of nowhere, and the chocolate turns to a dry cocoa (think eating Cocoa Puffs without the milk) that hangs around for a while. Just wonderful.
