Rezpiral Mezcal - 2021 Cucharillo (Sotol) by Maestro Mezcalero “Tio Chico”
750ml, 45.9% abv, Cucharillo grown for up to 20 years, double distilled in copper, 250 liters, May 2020, adjusted using heads and tails.

A note from Drammers Club: This bottling is actually a sotol (the Dasylirion species for the scientists among us!). In the south of Oaxaca, there is a variation of sotol that the locals call "cucharillo", which takes over 20 years to grow before it can be distilled, and of course is what we’ll be drinking here! This was a special expression from producer "Tio Chico" who made amazing mezcal in San Luis Amatlan. Tio Chico sadly passed away earlier this summer, and was reportedly very excited that this would be his first distillate to be exported abroad. Certainly we're honored to be the ones to do it. You'll be happy to know that his wife and children have already taken the helm as the next generation of their family to keep their mezcal traditions going.

This uncertified mezcal was bottled by Rezpiral, who we've worked with a lot in the past (in addition to this bottling, we just announced a rare bottling of cucharillo by the late great Tio Chico, and in past years we've done bottlings with Rezpiral of tepextate by Berta Vasquez, espadin by Abel Martinez, tobasiche by Simeon and Apolonio Ramirez, Tobala con frutas with Aureliano Hernandez, and also a capon espadin with Aureliano which is now sold out). We love working with Rezpiral for many reasons -- first and foremost we think they take seriously our golden rule (don't screw over the producers). They even give back 30% of their after-cost profits to the producers, which is unheard of in this industry.
